Frequently Asked Questions

Back Pain Treatment: Your Questions Answered

What Patients Ask Before Booking Their First Back Pain Visit with Us.

Can you help if I already have a herniated disc?
Yes. Many of our patients come in with herniated, bulging or degenerated discs. Spinal decompression, chiropractic and targeted rehab take pressure off the disc and help the surrounding muscles support the spine, often avoiding surgery. Many disc injuries respond to conservative care. Treatment recommendations depend on your diagnosis and individual condition. When clinically appropriate, we prioritize conservative care before surgical referral.
Do I need an MRI before I come in?
No. We start with a full exam and order imaging only when it will change your plan. If you already have an MRI or x-ray, bring it along. Ordering imaging you don't need is expensive and rarely changes the plan. When advanced imaging is warranted, we coordinate it with local imaging centers and typically have results reviewed within a day or two, so care isn't delayed.
How long until I feel better?
Most patients feel meaningful relief within the first few visits. A clear timeline and endpoint are part of your report of findings, no open-ended packages. Sharp pain usually calms first, then swelling, then the deeper mechanical issues driving the problem. Your plan is re-evaluated at set milestones so progress is measured, not guessed.
Will I be cracked or twisted?
Only when it's appropriate and you're comfortable with it. We offer gentle, low-force and instrument-assisted techniques if traditional adjustments aren't a fit. If manual adjusting isn't a fit for you at all, we can build the whole plan around decompression, rehab and soft-tissue work. Your comfort is a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have.
Do I need a referral?
Many patients can begin care without a referral. Referral and authorization requirements can vary by service and insurance plan, so our team will verify any applicable requirements before care begins. Book directly with any of our Carol Stream, St. Charles or West Dundee clinics. Illinois is a direct-access state, so you can start care with us the same week without waiting on paperwork from another provider. If you'd like your primary care doctor kept in the loop, we're happy to send updates on your progress.
Is back pain treatment covered by insurance?
Yes, our services are covered by most major PPO plans and Medicare. We verify your benefits before your first visit so you know exactly what's covered. Our billing team verifies your specific plan up front - including deductible, copay and visit limits - and walks you through everything before your first treatment.
